The Emory chapter of Synapse is currently seeking applicants for several executive board positions.The mission of Synapse is to provide individuals who are living with brain injury the opportunity to connect with and learn from one another in order to improve their access to resources. 

Synapse also aims to provide students with opportunities to serve as community leaders while learning about the patient perspective of living with a brain injury. They hope to accomplish these goals through three core events: peer support groups, a structured buddy program, and planned faculty lectures. Through these staple events they hope to foster a network of patients, students, faculty, and physicians to spread awareness of the resources and needs of those living with brain injury as well as their overall well-being.

Global Public Service Academies (GPSA) Medical Fellows Program

The Global Public Service Academies (GPSA), founded by Dr. Robert Malkin, professor of Biomedical Engineering at Duke University, is an educational organization that works in collaboration with local health authorities in Guatemala, Belize and West Virginia. Their Medical Fellows program is a post-undergraduate global health gap-year program for those interested in healthcare occupations like medicine, pharmacy or nursing. The program provides the opportunity to work alongside physicians, nurses, and community health workers while experiencing the challenges and opportunities present in global settings. 

Medical Fellows work with public health organizations to address health disparities in low-resource areas, assist at local health centers, and mentor high school students through GPSA's academic service learning programs. Fellows receive food and housing with a host family in a rural village in Guatemala or Belize.

Summer Treatment Program Counselor Positions at Cincinnati Children’s

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital invites undergraduate students to apply to be primary counselors for the 2018 ADHD Summer Treatment Program (STP). The STP is an evidence-based, therapeutic program devoted exclusively to 8-12 year old children with ADHD who are placed in groups of 10-12 children and supervised by 5-6 counselors. Counselors receive extensive clinical training and intervention skills in helping children with behavioral, social, and academic difficulties.

Primary Counselors are typically undergraduate students majoring in psychology, social work, education, or related fields. Counselors implement the treatment program with their group of 10-15 children as well as serve as a primary counselor for 1-3 children within their group. Counselors implement the behavior modification interventions during activities and also conduct sports skills training, social skills training, and problem solving training. During classroom sessions, counselors plan activities, design and revise individualized programs and targets for children’s daily report cards, and meet individually or as a group for supervision. Counselors receive extensive clinical training and intervention skills in helping children with behavioral, social, and academic difficulties.

The OU-TU School of Community Medicine located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is offering a Summer Undergraduate Internship designed to give participants an opportunity to experience community medicine through lectures, experiential learning, clinical shadowing, research projects, site visits, high school student mentoring and interaction with current medical students, faculty and staff.

Project Horseshoe Farm Undergraduate Internships

Project Horseshoe Farm is a 501(c)3 community based non-profit organization in Greensboro, Alabama. Since its founding in 2007, Horseshoe Farm has grown to become a multifaceted service and leadership development organization dedicated to strengthening our community, improving the quality of life of our vulnerable neighbors, and preparing citizen service leaders for tomorrow's communities.

 

Horseshoe Farm offers 8-10 week undergraduate internships in fall, winter, spring, and summer for students interested in future work in medicine, public and community health, psychology, education, and community service leadership.
