EUGHO's Yoga on the Quad

Support a meaningful cause, eat some snacks, and de-stress before finals at the Emory Undergraduate Global Health Organization (EUGHO)'s Yoga on the Quad event! Bring your own mat or towel. Optional $5 donations are requested and will benefit the Emory Global Village Project. 

The CASPA Applicaiton is Now Open!

 The 2018-2019 CASPA application cycle is now open! Students applying to begin PA school in the Fall of 2019 can now log in to create their accounts and begin working their applications.

If you had trouble logging in today, try again tomorrow or later this week! CASPA announced that there was heavy traffic in the opening hours of CASPA, causing issues with their servers. Take the day, do something fun, and come back tomorrow. There is no harm in not starting your application on launch day.

UF College of Dentistry Impressions Program

The University of Florida College of Dentistry is accepting applications for the annual Impressions Program. This one-day event will familiarize participants with the life of a UF dental student. Students will get hands on experience taking alginate impressions and waxing teeth. They will also be given a chance to conduct mock interviews with faculty to sharpen their interview skills. The event also consists of presentations by current students on the dental school application process and DAT preparation. Students will get a chance to meet UFCD alumni, staff, and the Assistant Dean of Admissions, Dr. Sandow. Breakfast and lunch will be provided!

Med School Application Prep at University of South Carolina

Pre-Professional Advising at the University of South Carolina is again offering its annual APEX five-day, residential camp to assist pre-med students craft their application to medical school.

APEX is an intense preparation program for med school applicants. It is also an opportunity for a trip to the gross anatomy lab at the USC School of Medicine Columbia, shadowing in the hospitals, and learning strategies about how to make your application accentuate your experiences in your best light. The application prep portion includes a comprehensive application overview (AMCAS/AACOMAS), personal statement workshop and practice, interview skills workshop, two simulated, lifelike med school interviews for each participant, practice with simulated Multiple Mini Interviews and discussions about current health care issues.

Throughout the entire five days there will be two current medical students available to offer advice, serve as resources, and share their experiences. This camp will help highly-motivated students learn how to showcase their abilities, skills, and enthusiasm throughout the application process to med school.

      Georgetown Complementary and Integrative Medicine Masters Program

      Does your family have "remedies" to treat the common cold, or other ailments and have you ever wondered why chewing on ginger is said to relieve cold symptoms? The 11-month Master of Science Degree in Physiology & Biophysics - Complementary & Integrative Medicine explores the scientific basis of these health claims and trains you to critically analyze and assess the data.

      This program allows future healthcare providers and researchers the opportunity to gain a deeper knowledge of Integrative Medicine. The 11-month M.S. program offers:
      • An excellent science-based curriculum that may be completed in eleven months. Ideal for students who are considering a career in medicine, other health professions or research.
      • A unique graduate/gap year program critically evaluating the scientific evidence for both western medicine and complementary and integrative medicine.
      • An examination of the similarities and differences of Eastern and Western medicine with an open but critical, and evidence-based mind.
      • Strong individual academic advising, career development workshops, mentoring and support for the medical school application process, admission to PhD programs and job applications.
      • Exploration of different health professions; opportunities for research and publication.
      • Class size limited to 30 students with a small student-faculty ratio.

      COPE Health Scholars Program

      The COPE Health Scholars program is accepting volunteer applications for their various programs. As a Health Scholar, pre-health students and recent graduates gain clinical experience, make a difference in the lives of patients and become an integral part of the patient care team. Working side by side with nurses and physicians, volunteers provide basic care for patients. Participants can help patients walk, feed them when they can’t feed themselves, assist with checking vitals and much more. After an initial 30-hour intensive training program, volunteers will begin clinical rotations in a variety of areas at the program site. At some sites, administrative rotations are also available. Programs are located in Seattle, WA and throughout California. See the program locations for details on opportunities available at each site.

      There are several different Health Scholars programs with lengths ranging from 3-15 months (most appropriate for gap year students).       Emory Palliative Care Center Events with Dr. Rajagopal

      Dr. M.R. Rajagopal, 2018 Nobel Peace Prize nominee and father of palliative care in India, will be sharing his experiences as part of three events hosted by the Emory Palliative Care Center. This is a great opportunity for those who attended the Death Cafe last month to deepen your understanding of palliative care. For those who did not attend, these events will be a great introduction to this important area of medicine. Students are welcome to attend one, two, or all three events!

      Key areas of discussion will include: Opioids and "non-addictive opioids" used in India, care of the dying in India, understanding the transformation of healthcare in the developing countries and the current state of palliative care, understanding the cultural disparities that influence the care of the Indian population, and strategies to provide culturally competent care for the Indian population.

      Research Positions at Maney Birdbrain Lab

      The Maney Birdbrain Lab has openings for a research specialist, either as a summer research experience for undergraduates or as a gap-year position for graduating seniors. Both positions would start in May 2018.

      They Maney Lab research interests include the genetic and neuroendocrine bases of behavior and the development of social reward. The lab is seeking applicants with experience in molecular techniques, for example, DNA/RNA extraction, molecular cloning, and/or PCR. Some coding experience, for example R or Python, and/or experience with Arduino or Raspberry Pi would also be helpful.
