Full-Time Research Assistant Position in the Emory TReAD Lab

The Translational Research in Affective Disorders (TReAD) Laboratory in Emory's Department of Psychology has an opening for a Research Assistant/Interviewer position. The Research Interviewer will assist with all aspects of the research process (designing/programming experiments, recruiting/running participants, analyzing behavioral and neuroimaging data). This is an excellent position for anyone seeking research experience and training in clinical and cognitive neuroscience before applying to graduate programs.

Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree or higher in cognitive science, neuroscience, computer science, psychology, math, biology, or other related field. Strong computer programming skills (especially MATLAB and/or Python) are required. Candidate should be self-motivated, independent, and reliable. Strong organizational and communication skills are also essential. Prior experience in human affective, clinical or cognitive neuroscience (e.g., conducting and analyzing fMRI or MRI studies), behavioral experiment administration, IRB management, or clinical interviewing experience will all be viewed positively, but are not required. A two-year commitment is required.

Summer Treatment Program Counselor Positions at Cincinnati Children’s

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital invites undergraduate students to apply to be primary counselors for the 2018 ADHD Summer Treatment Program (STP). The STP is an evidence-based, therapeutic program devoted exclusively to 8-12 year old children with ADHD who are placed in groups of 10-12 children and supervised by 5-6 counselors. Counselors receive extensive clinical training and intervention skills in helping children with behavioral, social, and academic difficulties.

Primary Counselors are typically undergraduate students majoring in psychology, social work, education, or related fields. Counselors implement the treatment program with their group of 10-15 children as well as serve as a primary counselor for 1-3 children within their group. Counselors implement the behavior modification interventions during activities and also conduct sports skills training, social skills training, and problem solving training. During classroom sessions, counselors plan activities, design and revise individualized programs and targets for children’s daily report cards, and meet individually or as a group for supervision. Counselors receive extensive clinical training and intervention skills in helping children with behavioral, social, and academic difficulties.

Swedish Epilepsy Center Summer Internship

The Swedish Epilepsy Center is currently seeking undergraduate applicants for their clinical neuroscience summer internship.  The goal of the Summer Internship Program is to spark interest in and facscination for the presentation and treatment of neurologic illness. While clinical exposure is one part of the internship, interns will also work on research projects that are ethical, safe, important, and hopefully fun.

The Swedish Epilepsy Center is specifically looking for two undergraduates interested in neuroscience and the pursuit of a career in clinical neuroscience to spend 6-8 weeks this Summer learning about epilepsy, neurology and neurosurgery. The internship has a $4000 stipend associated, and the start and finish dates can vary between Mid-June to Mid-August.

Clinical Research Assistant at Brown University on Infant Development

Research opportunity for recent and soon-to-be graduates: the laboratory of Dr. Laura Stroud at Brown University has an opening for a  full-time research position involving a longitudinal study of substance use during pregnancy and infant behavior, brain development, and biology. 

This position involves the opportunity to be uniquely trained in developmental examinations in newborns in the hospital and through home visits in the Providence, RI area and to be trained in placenta collection. The research assistant would also be involved with dataset management, data entry, and data analysis. Additional responsibilities include assistance with recruitment and screening. Research experience, background in statistics/SPSS and REDCap data entry is an asset. Evening and weekend availability and reliable transportation are required.

This position will provide opportunities to conduct independent research, submit presentations to conferences, prepare papers for publication.

Gap Year Opportunity: Project Coordinator for the Preschool Shyness Study

Drs. Kenneth Rubin and Andrea Chronis-Tuscano applications for the full-time Project Coordinator position for the Preschool Shyness Study at the University of Maryland: College Park, MD.

The primary aim of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) funded project – “A Multi-Component Early Intervention for Socially Inhibited Preschool Children" -- is to examine mediators and moderators of treatment response to a newly developed intervention. Outcome measures include parent and teacher ratings/questionnaires of child anxiety symptoms/disorders, temperament, and social functioning; observational measures of parenting and children's social behaviors in the classroom; and heart rate physiology (a biological index of emotional reactivity and regulation).

The successful candidate will work with Drs. Rubin and Chronis-Tuscano, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students studying multiple aspects of treatment effectiveness. Primary responsibilities will include working with participants to schedule study assessments; assisting with data collection and management; and general lab management and administrative duties (assisting with IRB protocols, supervising undergraduate RAs).

Qualifications include a BA/BS in psychology, counseling, social work, education, or related areas, and excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Applicants must be comfortable interacting with parents and children from a variety of demographic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Preference will be given to applicants with prior research (e.g., data collection, scheduling, and recruitment) or project management experience, although this is not a requirement.
