International Bioethics Summer School

New York Medical College, ​and the ​Bohemian Benevolent and Literary Association invite students and professionals worldwide to attend the International Bioethics Summer School hosted by the Bohemian National Hall. This one-of-a-kind educational opportunity in NYC is open to everyone from senior high school students to professionals. Candidates do not need any previous training in bioethics.​

The program includes a series of lectures and seminars by notable faculty, field trips, film screenings, evening events with guest speakers open to the public and a mini-conference prior to the graduation ceremony.

Partial Scholarships for low-income country residents & Graduate Certificates are available. Students can apply to intern with GBI this summer and attend the school program.

Master's Degree in Bioethics and Medical Humanities - Info Session

Students are invited to join Professors Eileen Anderson-Fye and Jonathan Sadowsky for an online information session about the study of Bioethics and Medical Humanities as it relates to your career path and the importance of studying Medicine, Society, and Culture. Participants will learn how they can earn their Master's degree in Bioethics and Medical Humanities in just 1 year at Case Western Reserve University.

The Department of Bioethics at CWRU is one of the oldest and most accomplished Bioethics programs in the country. They are dedicated to ensuring that students receive the best education possible. Courses are led by internationally-renowned faculty, who have varied backgrounds in medicine, nursing, philosophy, law, religious studies, anthropology, sociology, public health, psychology, and history.

The one-year Master's in Bioethics and Medical Humanities program encourages international dialogue through research collaborations, training programs, and institutional partnerships. Highlights of the program include the clinical experience, opportunity to earn a dual degree, and short-term study abroad.

Medical Wilderness Adventure Race (MedWAR) at the Medical College of Georgia

The Medical Wilderness Adventure Race (MedWAR) is an annual race that combines medical scenarios and physical challenges for participants to complete. This is an incredible opportunity for students, health care providers, and outdoor sports lovers to gain first-hand experience in wilderness medicine while having an exciting outdoor adventure! 

MedWAR began at the Medical College of Georgia many years ago and has since spread across the country. Participants are required to participate in teams of four people. Some of the challenges participants will face include hiking, bike riding, land navigation, kayaking, and running. Throughout the race, participants will have to treat simulated injuries and a variety of other simulated medical conditions one might encounter in the backcountry or in emergency situations in general. To complete the medical challenges and progress through the race, teams will have to correctly assess and treat the medical conditions or face penalties as they race to the finish line. This is an exciting opportunity to get outside and participate in some fun outdoor sports and have a blast with health care providers at all levels and with other people interested in wilderness medicine and outdoor adventures!

Emory HOPE Volunteer and Execuative Board Applications

Emory Hospice Outreach Perspectives and Engagement (HOPE) is a student organization seeking to grant pre-health students a greater perspective on palliative care, life, and mortality through engaging hospice work. 

Emory HOPE is currently accepting applications for Engagement Volunteers. Engagement Volunteers will have direct-patient interaction at the hospice center. Please note that becoming a long-term volunteer at hospice is a serious commitment in weekly visits. The American Physician Scientists Association Annual Meeting

The American Physician Scientists Association (APSA) is a national organization dedicated to addressing the needs of future physician scientists with respect to their training and career development. 

APSA's 14th Annual Meeting will be held April 20-22, 2018 in Chicago, IL. ASPA offers travel awards and registration waivers to encourage undergradautes and post-bacs to attend the Annual Meeting. Temple School of Medicine Summer Research Program

 

The Short Term Education Program for Undergraduate and Pre-Professional Students (STEP UP) in Health-Related Research is designed to offer research training to academically qualified underrepresented students. The research training focuses in the areas of interest to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and is housed in the multidisciplinary research environment at Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University.

The primary objective of STEP UP is to offer a rewarding experience in the research environment to minority students in the areas of interest to the NHLBI to foster a long-term commitment to pursue a professional graduate career.

STEP UP provides students with:

1. Direct exposure to biomedical research via hands-on experience while working on a project in the areas of hematology and cardiovascular research
2. Productive interaction with the mentors, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students
3. Information on biomedical careers
4. Guidance in choosing multiples pathways leading to a biomedical research career
5. Information on the health-related research network. 

Students will work in the laboratories of the mentors for 8-weeks during the summer and will be given the opportunity to continue their training in consecutive years.

OU Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine - Summer Scholars Program

The Summer Scholars Program at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine is a tremendous academic experience for underrepresented, or educationally or economically disadvantaged students to grow personally and be challenged professionally on the OU-HCOM campus.

The program replicates what will be experienced in the first year of medical school at OU-HCOM. Courses, taught by OU-HCOM faculty, include gross anatomy (with cadaver dissection), histology, immunology, biochemistry, integrated biomedical sciences, an introduction to case based learning (CBL), and workshops dealing with the admission process, time management and many other experiences relevant to the medical school experience.

The Summer Scholars Program is five weeks in length and includes room and board, a living allowance, travel expenses, and the potential for a guaranteed interview for the entering class at the medical school.

Georgia Department of Public Health Worksite Wellness Internship

The Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking qualified candidates for the Worksite Wellness Internship. This intern position is 20 - 40 hours/week or less (part-time) for a period of Winter/Spring/Summer semester. The intern position can be used to satisfy college credit or practicum hours. 

Worksite Wellness Program Goals:

• Provide programs and preventive services to employees that prevent disease, injury, and disability by advocating for and promoting health, leading change in health policies and systems, and enabling healthy choices. 
• Increase participation in DPH Worksite Wellness programs by educating not only DPH employees, but all State of Georgia employees about health and well-being.

The intern will assist the Worksite Wellness team (program manager, specialist, fitness center manager, fitness center specialist) in promotion of Worksite Wellness programs. The intern will contribute to the planning of activities and programs and will deliver or assist in the facilitation of well-being educational activities. Administrative and day-to-day functions of the program include: communicating internally to DPH employees, health promotion activities, organization and filing.
