Baltimore Health Immersion Pre-Health Program

Baltimore Health Immersion at Loyola University is a five-week summer program on the psychological and social foundations of health designed to build your capacity to serve as a culturally competent health professional. Through integrated course work, participants will develop foundational skills to analyze how health is influenced by psychology, socioeconomic factors, religious beliefs, and neighborhoods in which individuals reside.

 

The 40-hour service-learning internship in an urban healthcare setting and networking opportunities provide participants the opportunity to deepen their understanding of health disparities while preparing them to learn, serve, and lead in the diverse and rapidly changing twenty-first-century world.

Performance Improvement Coordinator Position at Stanford Children’s Health

The Performance Improvement (PI) department at Stanford Children’s Health (SCH) is hiring bright, hard-working, and energetic recent and soon-to-be graduates to progress the department’s mission: to support the delivery of high value care, facilitate continual learning and promote continuous improvement. Coordinators are integral to supporting the PI department to realize its mission through improving the clinical and operating performance of SCH.

Across U.S. healthcare, progressive organizations are striving to provide better care and value to patients. SCH is facilitating process improvement through lean management systems. In addition to learning about performance improvement methodologies and their application to healthcare, coordinators will be exposed to medical center operations management and operations consulting that provide opportunities to collaborate with SCH clinicians and administrators.

Literacy Action Volunteers Needed

Literacy Action needs volunteers for their Success Center! Literacy Action relies upon the commitment of volunteers to help them meet their mission of empowering undereducated adults to reach their highest potential. Volunteers at Literacy Action provide that extra support to push the organization and the students forward.

Literacy Action Success Center volunteers will provide basic support to students while they are working independently on the Aztec Learning System software. Examples include troubleshooting basic problems, like connecting to the internet, connecting computer equipment for student use, etc. Through such support, volunteers will have the opportunity to create a welcoming environment in the lab to foster learning, support students and empower students to reach their goals.

One volunteer is needed per session. Each volunteer will choose one session on one day that they will attend each week. Volunteers will need to commit one semester.

California School of Podiatric Medicine Summer Immersion Program

The California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University is now accepting applications for their Summer Podiatric Medicine Immersion Program. This three-day workshop provides participants with an opportunity to explore the profession of Podiatric Medicine & Surgery.

Students who attend the program will:

• Gain invaluable learning experience and an opportunity to explore the profession of podiatry
• Interact with faculty and students in a variety of settings 
• Participate in a MCAT workshop, gaining tips and strategies for peak performance 
• Learn about and understand the increased need for podiatric physicians

Medical Assistant Position at Ankle and Foot Center of Georgia

Dr. Gregory Alvarez at Ankle and Foot Centers of Georgia has an open position on his team for a medical assistant. This is a great opportunity for recent and soon-to-be graduates who need clinical exposure prior to moving on to their health professional program.

The position will involve serving as a scribe, medical assistant, and surgical assistant at the Fayetteville, Peachtree City, and Newnan offices. You will also gain knowledge in practice management and the day-to-day operations of a medical practice. This is a full-time paid position with benefits. The position was previously held by an Emory grad who is soon leaving for medical school. This is a great opportunity for clinical hours with on-the-job training.

Gap Year Opportunity - Full Time Research Technician Position

The Yu Laboratory in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Emory University School of Medicine has a full time research technician position available for a motivated recent or soon to be graduate interested in obtaining training in basic/translational research. The technician will be involved in a project(s) involved in understanding how cells respond to DNA replication stress, and more generally DNA damage, and how this knowledge can be utilized for improvements in cancer therapy. 

Approaches utilized in the lab, which if necessary the technician will be provided training for, will include but are not limited to basic cell culture, immunofluorescence, western blot analysis, DNA cloning, siRNA knockdown, protein purification, flow cytometry and other molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry techniques. The position will also involve general support work in the laboratory. 

An important component of the position will be career development. The technician will be provided substantial mentorship as well as the opportunity to obtain authorship on manuscripts and present their work at national meetings, which will be subsidized by the laboratory. The technician will also be provided opportunities to be involved in clinical research and shadowing in the clinic. The position would be ideal for a candidate interested in a gap year(s) experience prior to application to medical or graduate school.

Duke Doctor Physical Therapy Summer Discovery Program

The Duke Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is hosting the 2nd Annual Summer Discovery Program at the Duke DPT Facilities in Durham, NC. This intensive program will immerse participants completely in the profession of physical therapy. At the end of this week, participants will have gained exposure to multiple areas in the profession of physical therapy and have the information they need to be more competitive and to effectively matriculate into doctor of physical therapy programs.

Participants will have access to some of the top faculty in the profession of physical therapy, will have interdisciplinary opportunities, receive mentorship from current DPT students, faculty, clinicians, and admission specialists; as well as have opportunities to take advantage of Duke’s state of the art facilities.

Housing arrangements, meals, and transportation will be provided for all participants during the program; however, participants are responsible for their travel to and from the program.

Stanford Medical Scribe Fellowship

Medical scribing is a unique opportunity for prospective healthcare students to observe and participate directly in-patient care. Stanford’s Clinical Observation and Medical Transcription (COMET) Fellowship is a one-year post-baccalaureate program designed for highly motivated students interested in pursuing a career in the health professions.
