Volunteer Applications for Harriet Tubman Women's Clinic

The Harriet Tubman Women’s Clinic (HTWC) is a free women’s clinic run by students at Emory University School of Medicine. The Clinic aims to provide excellent medical care and patient education while also teaching students. 

HTWC is seeking dedicated undergraduates who are available to volunteer for two or more Sunday evenings in Clarkston each month, from 3:30 to 8:00pm. They are looking for motivated students interested in gaining clinical experience and learning about the operation of a clinic. On a typical night, they have two undergraduate volunteers, and see about 10 patients for whom they provide a variety of health services. This volunteer position is an excellent experience for anyone looking to go into a health career.

Winship Cancer Institute’s Summer College Volunteer Program

The Winship Cancer Institute’s Summer College Volunteer Program is geared toward students with a vested interest in health care who are looking to engage and interact with patients, their caregivers, and members of the Winship staff in an outpatient clinical setting. At Winship Cancer Institute, students can look forward to impacting and assisting one of the key healthcare institutions in Atlanta, GA. Through hands-on clinical and administrative exposure, the students will create meaningful relationships with patients and opportunities for networking, while gaining a wider understanding about the ins and outs of the acute-care setting.

Forty college students will be selected and required to serve for 10 weeks providing a minimum of 8 hours/week. All applicants must submit to a background check, submit 2 letters of reference, and provide proof of immunizations (chicken pox, mumps, measles and rubella, and hepatitis B). Select students will be invited to a one-on-one interview and notification of acceptance will occur by mid-May.

The Ethics and Servant Leadership Program of the Center for Ethics is now accepting applications for the 2018 Servant Leader Summer Internship Program. This paid internship offers participants the opportunity to make a difference, address new challenges, develop new skills, and expand their horizons.

The Servant Leadership Summer Internship program is a funded summer internship program that places qualified Emory University students in Atlanta-area nonprofits, government agencies, and socially responsible businesses. All current, full - time Emory University (including Oxford College) students are eligible.

Community Action Poverty Simulation with Urban Health Initiative

Poverty is a reality for many individuals and families, but unless a person has truly experienced poverty, it's difficult to understand. Please join Urban Health Initiative in experiencing the challenges of poverty and homeless at their Community Action Poverty Simulation. Their mission is to bring together students, faculty, community members, and representatives from local organizations to begin a dialogue of addressing the daily challenges faced by many who live with disparity in our community.

Health P.A.S.S. at Des Moines University

Des Moines University’s Health Professions Advanced Summer Scholars Program (Health P.A.S.S.)  is a great way to prepare for health professional graduate programs. Health P.A.S.S. provides students with key insights and hands-on experience in a variety of health professions. Learn from lectures and presentations in four clinical areas:

International Bioethics Summer School

New York Medical College, ​and the ​Bohemian Benevolent and Literary Association invite students and professionals worldwide to attend the International Bioethics Summer School hosted by the Bohemian National Hall. This one-of-a-kind educational opportunity in NYC is open to everyone from senior high school students to professionals. Candidates do not need any previous training in bioethics.​

The program includes a series of lectures and seminars by notable faculty, field trips, film screenings, evening events with guest speakers open to the public and a mini-conference prior to the graduation ceremony.

Partial Scholarships for low-income country residents & Graduate Certificates are available. Students can apply to intern with GBI this summer and attend the school program.

Master's Degree in Bioethics and Medical Humanities - Info Session

Students are invited to join Professors Eileen Anderson-Fye and Jonathan Sadowsky for an online information session about the study of Bioethics and Medical Humanities as it relates to your career path and the importance of studying Medicine, Society, and Culture. Participants will learn how they can earn their Master's degree in Bioethics and Medical Humanities in just 1 year at Case Western Reserve University.

The Department of Bioethics at CWRU is one of the oldest and most accomplished Bioethics programs in the country. They are dedicated to ensuring that students receive the best education possible. Courses are led by internationally-renowned faculty, who have varied backgrounds in medicine, nursing, philosophy, law, religious studies, anthropology, sociology, public health, psychology, and history.

The one-year Master's in Bioethics and Medical Humanities program encourages international dialogue through research collaborations, training programs, and institutional partnerships. Highlights of the program include the clinical experience, opportunity to earn a dual degree, and short-term study abroad.

Medical Wilderness Adventure Race (MedWAR) at the Medical College of Georgia

The Medical Wilderness Adventure Race (MedWAR) is an annual race that combines medical scenarios and physical challenges for participants to complete. This is an incredible opportunity for students, health care providers, and outdoor sports lovers to gain first-hand experience in wilderness medicine while having an exciting outdoor adventure! 

MedWAR began at the Medical College of Georgia many years ago and has since spread across the country. Participants are required to participate in teams of four people. Some of the challenges participants will face include hiking, bike riding, land navigation, kayaking, and running. Throughout the race, participants will have to treat simulated injuries and a variety of other simulated medical conditions one might encounter in the backcountry or in emergency situations in general. To complete the medical challenges and progress through the race, teams will have to correctly assess and treat the medical conditions or face penalties as they race to the finish line. This is an exciting opportunity to get outside and participate in some fun outdoor sports and have a blast with health care providers at all levels and with other people interested in wilderness medicine and outdoor adventures!
