UAB School of Medicine Summer Programs

The Summer in Biomedical Science (SIBS) Undergraduate Research Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine will provide the opportunity for young people to be instructed in the techniques of modern biology while becoming integrated members of a vibrant clinical and scientific community.

Students who will be sophomore or junior level college undergraduates in March are eligible to apply to this 8-week paid summer program. Participants will work with faculty members on mentored research projects.
The Preparation for Graduate and Medical Education (PARAdiGM) Program is UAB's NIH/NHLBI-funded 8-week paid summer program for outstanding undergraduates from disadvantaged and underrepresented minority backgrounds who want  to explore the potential of a future career as a physician-scientist - becoming a scientific investigator and a practicing physician.

Participants will work with UAB faculty on mentored research projects and participate in clinical experiences.

The Kidney Undergraduate Research Program (KURE) is an 8-week program where participants will engage in guided kidney-related research with a mentor and attend a variety of seminars and workshops. Aside from time in the lab students will have professional development sessions and the opportunity to shadow physicians in clinic. The KURE oral symposium, held at the close of the summer session is where students present their summer research.
