We Lead Surgery is a national movement with an intersectional focus dedicated to supporting women throughout their journeys to becoming surgical leaders through mentorship, academic interventions, and radical culture change. Our growing group of members is united by the shared goal of empowering young women as they embark on their surgical careers.
The statistics surrounding the representation of women in this field are alarming. Fourteen percent of plastic surgeons are women. Six percent of neurological surgeons are women. Less than five percent of cardiac surgeons are women. Numbers of women surgeons of color are so low that they are not reported. It is our mission to increase these numbers.
Our efforts will be multi-faceted. Among these efforts is a surgical newsletter.
